The instrument is surmounted by a finely carved crouching female figure. To give resolution and depth to the sound a calabash would have been attached to the beautifully curved underside of the shaft. Intricate raised striations and geometric markings adorn each side of the shaft. The surface of the instrument exhibits a lovely encrusted patina.
