Carved from one piece of wood with a wonderful weathered surface due to age and exposure, this early parrying shield would have once been a prestige possession belonging to a Dinka warrior or elder. The handle to the rear of the shield exhibits a smooth patina as a result of handling over time. The circular formed front of the shield exhibits a weathered and eroded surface that attractively flows with the grains and knots of the wood.
