This Kuba prestige cup (Mbwoongntey) depicts a carved human head featuring a serene expression and small, closed mouth symbolising the value of contemplation before speech.
Raised scarification patterns adorn the sides of the head. The interlocking patterns adorning the handle and rim of the cup are reminiscent of an elaborate hairstyle and headdress. Over time, the cup has developed a lovely patinated surface.
