This Akan duafe incorporates a broad-shouldered body surmounted by a small, disc-shaped head adorned with two facial scarification markings. The wide body of the comb is beautifully decorated on both sides with incised abstract and geometric designs.
Among the Akan of Ghana, elaborate combs such as this were gifted from men to women to commemorate special events such as weddings or births.
