This Zulu meat platter is impressive in its size and form. The underside of the platter is decorated with two V-shaped amasumpa designs (Amasumpa- clusters of raised welts - are a form of Zulu embellishment, which are thought to represent body scarification markings). The patina is dark and glossy from wear and handling.
In traditional houses, the Ugqoko would be hung and displayed on the wall with the decorated underside facing outwards.
The platter comes with a custom made metal wall mount, so can be easily hung to display as shown in the gallery display photo.
