With its arms raised to the heavens, this fine 19th Century (or before) fragment of a Dogon or Tellem figure displays a characteristic gesture of sculpture from this culture, which have been said to indicate a gesture of prayer and communication between the earth and the heavens.
The figure exhibits a weathered surface, with a missing area below the torso as a result of erosion and age. An old label is attached to the base of the figure.
