This tall woven grass fibre screen would have been used to separate different areas of a traditional Tutsi household, for instance, the meeting and sleeping spaces. This screen with wonderful movement in its design is made totally from natural fibres (without nylon cross thread) which indicates it is an earlier example.
The domestic spaces of the Tutsi were enclosed and decorated with items of grass fibre. Tutsi houses were subdivided with interior partitions and screens, all fabricated with plant materials.
