This finely forged large iron spear blade/currency piece dates back to the middle of the nineteenth century or before. It is rare in its form and the region of Africa where it originates, being Bahr El Gazal Region of Central Africa. A similar example can be found in the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford which was field collected in 1858. There is an old collection number at the rear, and to the top of stem above the holes.
