A lovely early high backed chair with a deep and lusty patina. Typically carved from one piece of wood with a simply constructed back support with two cut-out spaces, lower and upper on the back support. Three curved legs support the circular seat of a large proportion. High-backed chairs such as this were an important symbol of status amongst many culture in the southern and western regions of Ethiopia through-out the 19th and early 20th Century.
