Rare to find fine, screens such as this would have been rolled down to separate the sleeping area and alcove in a traditional Tutsi household. The weaving, made from fine strands of grass fibre is supported by a series of bamboo stems. The free-flowing zigzag design is one that is often found on Tutsi basketry and screens.
