Ever since collecting this weight many years ago I was mystified as to what it represented. Only recently I came across another similar published weight, describing it as a shield! Both examples - this one and the published example - have distinctive rounded and raised features in the middle and at each end of the casting, it is not known what these represent. It is likely this example dates to at least the 18th century.
