These two small Akan brass containers (adamphruwa), which date back to the nineteenth-century, have been traditionally used to store gold dust. The thin-walled box, depicted on the left in the accompanying photographs, has been made from wrapped and joined brass sheets, and adorned with bands of embossed decorations.
The box, depicted on the right in the photographs, is thicker walled and has been cast. Both boxes feature beautifully decorated lids, which fit tightly to their bases.
