A distinct characteristic of pots from the Zande and Mangbetu of north-eastern DRC is the long tapered neck with multiple rings, as seen in this fine example. The body has been decorated with a series of simple and pleasing raised decorations.
Pots from this region of Africa were traditionally made and treasured by the Zande and Mangbetu royalty as an expression of art, and only sometimes had a practical purpose.
