This mask came from a Sukuma village in the Geita Region, close to the shores of Lake Victoria in Western Tanzania. Carved from a heavy wood, this dance mask displays a powerful facial expression with a pair of rounded eyes, a slender nose, and an open mouth with inserted wooden teeth. The surface of the mask has been decorated with yellow and red pigments, and has developed a worn patina over time.
