The seat of this small, early 20th century stool has been beautifully adorned with intricate twisted copper wirework patterns of circular and semi-circular designs. The use of fine inlaid strands of metal to decorate the seats of stools is a practice that the Kamba were renowned for during the early part of the twentieth-century.
In Kamba culture, small beautifully decorated seats are symbols of status and prestige. Prestige stools, such as this fine example, would have been proudly carried and sat upon by male members of Kamba society as a visible signifier of rank and importance.
