A large richly adorned gourd medicine container, Kaguru culture, Tanzania. This container, with its carved wooden stopper has a amazing array of decorations and attachments. One of the most beautiful containers I have never handled. Around its body are two large tiger cowrie shells which are rare to find on the coast of Tanzania. Another large cone shaped shell attached has been stuffed with a bundle of traditional medicine. These, together with the multiple stands of old glass beads are a testament to this containers power and importance.
