MADONNA AND CHILD. DRC

SOLD

Madonna and Child – Likely Luba, Democratic Republic of the Congo

A beautifully carved African Madonna and Child, attributed to a Luba artist from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, displaying the elegance and refined features for which Luba carving is renowned.

The Madonna is portrayed standing gracefully, holding the Christ Child before her in a tender and devotional pose. Both figures exhibit fine facial features, balanced proportions, and a serene expression. Red paint remains on the flowing robes, enriching the surface with warmth and contrast.

Christian devotional sculptures such as this represent a fascinating fusion of European religious iconography and Central African artistic traditions.
