Akan gold weights cast in copper are unusual to find. Heavy and large in size, this gold weight depicts a cockerel, with rows of fine semi-circular decorations representing the feathers of the bird. Dating back to the nineteenth-century, the surface of the gold weight has developed a beautiful verdigris patina in parts.
