Headrest With a Beautiful Bent-Wood Form. Karamojong Culture, Northern Uganda

Fashioned by the time consuming process of soaking, bending and shaping a piece of flattened wood into this beautiful yet totally functional item for every-day use.

Held into shape by a piece of leather strapping that also acts as the handle the headrest is relatively large in size with wide splayed legs and a slightly curved neck support. Headrests from this region made in this technique were commonly used up to around the 1960's.
