A forged 19th Century Kota iron adornment of wonderful sculptural form. The arm adornment or prestige piece, is composed of multiple layered ribs that spiral around a its curved form, creating a dynamic shell-like appearance The forged ridges and creative proportions demonstrate the skill of the Kota blacksmith.
Pieces of this type were sometimes worn as personal adornments and also kept as symbols of wealth, reflecting the importance of ironworking within Kota and many other cultures throughout West and Central Africa.
