This early Tsonga headrest displays a wonderful form, with splayed X-shaped supports divided at its centre by a horizontal barrel formation. Two lugs, located at each end of the gently curved neck support, have been decorated with multiple strands of fine giraffe hair and small early glass beads. The surface of the headrest is dry, smooth and glossy in parts.
