An early Mongo or Teke headrest from the DRC. The base has a typical pyramid formation joining at the top to a single support with a deep glossy patina where the headrest was handled. The curved neck support has a dry patina and has rows of chiselled markings on its underside. Carved from one piece, the headrest has good age likely early 20th century or before.
