This finely cast Gan bronze pendant depicts, at its centre, a female figure with outstretched and raised arms, flanked on each side by two chameleons.
Spiral designs with raised central dots adorn the top and bottom of the pendant/charm - decorations that follow through to the rear of the piece, which displays a series of seven circular designs. This circle-and-dot motif is often found on traditional jewellery and pendants throughout the African continent, as a symbol of protection.
The pendant/charm, which dates to the first half of the twentieth-century, exhibits a dark, slightly encrusted surface patina.
