The upper section of this finely carved Kwere hair pin depicts a female figure sitting on a raised stool, with her hands gently resting on her breasts. Below, the body of the pin has been beautifully decorated with geometric Swahili designs. Commissioned and given as gifts, intricately carved hair pins such as this example are often worn by Kwere women during ceremonial occasions.
