Standing with a powerful and upright stance this fine Kerebe male figure came from the island of Ukerebe on Lake Victoria and was likely carved by a neighbouring Nyamwezi carver. Figurative sculpture of any form coming from this region of Tanzania is very rare. Carved from a hard wood the surface is smooth, dark and worn. There is a traditional restoration to one of the arms which has been bound in strips of bicycle tube.
