From close examination there are many indications that this bronze figure is likely to be a early casting. The wall of the casting shows many flaws and imperfections, this can be seen at the rear of the horse where parts of the inner core are visible. Other surface areas show rough restorations where the flow of the metal was not fully complete. The man sits upright holding a ceremonial wand in one hand and the horses rains in the other. There is an adornment, probably a small gourd, hanging from his neck and he wears a hat of an early Portuguese style. The underside shows four bent nails or pins coming out from larger holes where the core of the casting is still visible. It is not sure of the purpose of these metal pins but they were probably used in the process of the casting.
