Bound together by strands of fibre, these two gourd containers would have been used together by a Kaguru healer to store medicines. The larger of the two containers features a wooden stopper which has been carved into the form of a male's head. The top of the smaller container is made from a piece of bark, bent into shape to create a stopper for the container. Photographs supplied show the double traditional medicine container in situ, in the village in Tanzania where they were acquired.
