DOUBLE CROCODILE GOLD WEIGHT. AKAN, GHANA

£160

Gold Weight Depicting Two Crocodiles with Shared Stomach. Akan, Ghana

Finely cast with the snouts raised of each crocodile. The body is finely decorated with cross-hatch designs.

Crocodile gold weights with a shared stomach evoke the proverb : they both have the same stomach but when they eat they fight because of the sweetness of the swallowing. The meaning of the proverb - it expresses the dilemmas of family life - is that while the acquisitions of each family member benefits the whole family, there is only one stomach, the pleasure of enjoyment is an individual thing.
