Fashioned from buffalo hide, this shield exhibits a wonderful crinkled and warped form. While the animal skin was still wet and soft, a long wooden pole was threaded through the length of the cut hide which enabled the piece to act both as a weapon and defensive shield.
This shield came from a private British collection, and dates back to around the 1950's.
