This small, finely cast nineteenth-century Akan bronze gold weight depicts an animal, with a ring around its neck - a feature which likely served the function of an additional counter weight. This gold weight, which dates back to the nineteenth-century or before, has developed a worn and smooth surface patina as a result of handling over time.
