19th Century Wollega Chair With Angled Backrest, Ethiopia

£1100

19th Century High-Backed Chair. Wollega Culture, Oromo Region, Ethiopia.

This is a unique small chair in its shape combined with the unusual design of the back support. Carved from one piece of a medium-hard wood, the chair has developed a smooth rich patina from handling and use. The back support has an unusual angled rib-like form with four attractive triangular cut-out features. The formation of the back support and the positioning of the seat make this chair surprisingly comfortable to sit on.
