Pieces of Ethiopian furniture such as this are rare to find. This unusual example, which dates back to the nineteenth-century, has been carved from a single piece of dense, heavy wood.
The seat is supported by four short, box-shaped legs, and as a result of use over time, the surface of the low-set chair exhibits a lovely deep, glossy worn patina. The angled back-rest tapers in form towards the end, and displays a series of unusual dot decorations halfway up the support. The chair is functional and surprisingly comfortable to sit on.
