18th/19th Century Gold Weight. Akan Culture, Ghana

This large Akan brass gold weight depicts two birds perched on a tiered pyramid-shaped base. Facing each other, the two birds are joined together by the tips of their touching beaks.

This piece, which dates back to the eighteenth/nineteenth century, exhibits a worn surface, especially on the underside.

Estimated Period: 18th/19th Century
