This year instead of holding the normal fair at the Mall Galleries, TAL will be staging three online exhibitions. For details of the next online exhibition see below.

The second in this three-part series from Tribal Art London, Prestige Objects Art Exhibition will run via www.tribalartlondon.com from 17th September to 7th Nov 2020. This exhibition focuses on objects that denote status, wealth and importance both of individuals and the larger community.
Many indigenous communities across the globe have striking similar social structures whether monarchical, patriarchal or matriarchal in nature, appointed leaders of the community are marked out to show their status and importance. It is however the imaginative and unique artistic approach which each community and furthermore artist takes to covey this status that makes for the sensational range of objects conveyed in this exhibition.
The head, hands and torso are all a canvas for adornment, prized materials such as precious metals, shells, feathers and beads aggrandise the wearer. Prestige objects such as sculptures and masks are placed in sacred areas and the homes of high ranking members of the community. Emblems and iconography carved or woven into prestige objects express birthright and the stretch of territory ownership.
